What is the capital gains tax?

From 1 January 2026, Belgium taxes profits on the sale of financial assets (stocks, ETFs, funds, crypto, etc.) held by private individuals. The tax only applies to gains — if you sell at a loss, you owe nothing on that sale.

How does this calculator work?

Choose the applicable regime, enter your acquisition cost, photo moment value and sale price, and the tool instantly calculates your estimated tax with a step-by-step breakdown. Every field has a ? button with detailed explanation.

Who does this apply to?

All Belgian tax residents (natural persons) who hold financial investments. Companies and non-residents are not subject to this tax.
