What is the capital gains tax?

From 1 January 2026, Belgium taxes profits on the sale of financial assets (stocks, ETFs, funds, crypto, etc.) held by private individuals. The tax only applies to gains — if you sell at a loss, you owe nothing on that sale.

How does this simulator work?

Add your investment positions, enter purchase prices and current values, and the tool calculates your estimated tax. Use the simulation tab to model 'what if I sell X units?' scenarios. Everything is calculated locally in your browser — no data leaves your device.

Who does this apply to?

All Belgian tax residents (natural persons) who hold financial investments. Companies and non-residents are not subject to this tax. The tax applies regardless of how long you've held the investment.
